How do you plan a release?

A release starts weeks before the release.

A song that simply drops on a Friday often gets lost. Planning ahead gives it a real chance. Here's a simple timeline:

  • About 4 weeks before: upload the song to your distributor.
  • Then: pitch the song for editorial playlists via Spotify for Artists.
  • Share a pre-save link: fans save the song before release and it lands in their library on release day.
  • In the weeks before: post snippets, studio moments and a countdown.
  • On release day and after: ask fans to save and share the song.

Every release gives Spotify's algorithm new data. Releasing regularly helps more than one big release a year.
